Tailored pastoral and welfare support for organisations big and small.

Our approach

We come from a place of experience - and experiences. With a background including education, especially Further Education and Special Schools, Policing, Youth Justice, Children’s Services, Care Settings and more, we bring lived experience of front line safeguarding, child protection and strategic welfare leadership.

In turn, we offer training that genuinely reflects your organisation and consultancy that has meaningful and lasting impact. When it comes to safeguarding and welfare, one size does not fit all.

Choose your fit - Training, Consulting, Interim Leadership

Some organisations have a clear view of what support is needed and when, some are looking to tie-over vacancies and some are simply looking to bolster their pastoral offer for the children’s and staff’s benefit.

In-person and remote options

We are conveniently based in Maidstone, Kent, in striking distance of London and the rest of the South East. Even so, we cover the whole of the UK for on-site work or, alternatively, can deliver a suite of services remotely too. Your choice.

  • Consultancy

The Safeguarding Group offers a full consultancy service from short projects to ongoing contracts.

    Services rendered include:

  • Supervision

Safeguarding, Behaviour Management and Leadership are big responsibilities, whether part of a bigger position (Head, Deputy, Assistant etc.) or your main role (Welfare/Safeguarding Officer, Pastoral Support Manager, HR Executive, Behaviour Manager etc.).

Big responsibilities carry with them big weight. Having an outlet for that weight can be pivotal for the welfare of individuals as well as the retention of great staff.

The Safeguarding Group offers Practice Supervision for those responsible for Safeguarding and/or Behaviour or those in senior Leadership positions, whether in education or otherwise.

  • FE Services

The Safeguarding Group was originally founded in, and aimed at, the Further Education Sector - Colleges, Training Providers and Apprenticeships

This unique sector of education was sorely lacking great independent welfare training, advice and support, something The Safeguarding Group wanted to tackle. FE Students span both children’s and adult’s legislation, are heavily impacted by contextual issues, receive funding through routes that vary greatly from mainstream counterparts and are often left out of Local Authority support plans through a lack of understanding.

We offer support, training and leadership capacity that is squarely aimed at YOUR learners, in the context of YOUR College.

  • “Excellent training that provides my new Opportunities Coaches with all the skills and tools needed to move forward this year, supporting our most vulnerable and at-risk young people. I can’t recommend Ben’s training enough: Contextualised Safeguarding, Motivational Dialogue and Restorative Conversations. My team now feel fully equipped to move forward in their new and exciting roles. I really do appreciate the toolkit that you have equipped them with.. highly recommended!..”

Nicky Gibson - Director of Student Services, MidKent College

  • “I didn’t know how valuable a support mechanism for my development and wellbeing, as a Deputy Principal and Designated Safeguarding Lead, Ben's input would be until I had the opportunity to work with The Safeguarding Group. His support, supervision and advice is now simply a staple of my practice. His passion and influence has spread across the Trust now - our approach to both welfare and behaviour has never been so consistent.”

Tyla Owen, Deputy Principal, Quest Academy (SEMH)
